Guidos and Guidettes....Jersey Shore

We took a trip this past weekend to the Jersey Shore. We have been warned that the summer is too busy when school gets out. The best time to go is May or September. We also heard we were going to have 80 degree weather, so we planned the trip.
We first went to a beach at Sandy Hook Recreation Area. It was GORGEOUS!! The water was really cold (~50 degrees) but that did not keep Drew from playing in it...my little fish! We built sand castles and watched the fisherman on the beach catch HUGE fish!
Look at my handsome boys! Like father, like son!
At the tip of Sandy Hook peninsula is Fort Hancock and the oldest lighthouse in the nation. We did not take the tour to the top because we were anxious to get to our next beach.
This is the boardwalk in Asbury Park. This area has been really rundown in the past few years and they are in the process of revitalizing it. We had a great time hanging at the beach.
Again, my wonderfully handsome boys in their backwards ball caps at lunch. A really good Mexican joint called Pop's. Drew really liked the chips and fresh salsa.
Drew escorting the "beached whale" in the waves of the ocean. Obviously won't find me in my bikini on the beach!!
Drew has a shark fin because his dad dipped his head in the surf. He LOVED it!

Exploring in the new wheels...

We took our first family trip in the minivan the weekend after I got it. We went to Sleepy Hollow, NY.
We began at an old Dutch farm (circa 1760's) that was having a special "Sheep to Shawl" day. We got to see them sheer a sheep, walk through really old barns, manor houses, and mills and learn about the people that began on the farm. We also got to watch a Border Collie herd some sheep. It was very fascinating...the herdsman used a single syllable spoken at a whisper to get the dog to obey his command. We had lunch at a quaint brewery overlooking the Hudson River before we drove through Sleepy Hollow Cemetary. This bored Drew, so he fell asleep in the car but we took an entire tour of the cemetary from the minivan and saw all the REALLY IMPORTANT people's graves. As mentioned in the post before, we also drove over the Headless Horseman's bridge from the movie, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We also took some photos of the country's oldest church. The architecture was amazingly beautiful (Grandpa Dick would really like the old leaded glass windows).
When Drew awoke, we went to the Lindbergh Castle along the Hudson River. We walked the property and took photos. They have an hour long tour, but that would have been too long for Drew. On the way home, we stopped an had ice cream for dessert and played at a local park that Drew enjoys. Hope you enjoyed the photos! We had a great time on our first family trip in the minivan (we are thinking of naming the van "Johnny" for Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow...what do you think??)

A "Wheely" Big Surprise

So, about 3 weeks ago I had just finished getting Drew down for his nap and I noticed out the window that Tim's car (which I had been driving) was not in our driveway anymore. I PANICKED!!! Somebody stole his car!
Then I looked in the spot next to his and there was a SHINY GREY MINIVAN. I thought, "WHO IS HERE"?

Then it all clicked...my husband pulled a fast one on me and bought me a new minivan without me knowing it. Yes, we had been looking at minivans but he had convinced me that it would have to wait till later in the summer because he wasn't able to get the one we wanted and a good price for the trade-in of our SUV.

HE FOOLED ME! Needless to say, I love it! I never thought I would be a minivan mom before the age of 30, but it suits me! We really needed the extra space with another on the way! Here is a photo of our minivan crossing the "HEADLESS HORSEMAN'S" bridge in Sleepy Hollow Cemetary (only photo I had of it).
